Good funicular rides in Switzerland fill up weeks ahead and the famous ones go first. Below: the 5 to book early, what each includes and how they differ.
Take the short funicular from Interlaken Harderbahn to Harder Kulm, 1,322 meters above sea level. Spend the day at the Two Lakes Bridge, glass-bottom viewpoint, and hilltop restaurant, then return when you choose. The ride takes about 10 minutes each way. Food and drinks cost extra, and clear weather matters most.

Join a multilingual guide at Lugano’s Via Magatti 6 for a boat ride to Cassarate, a funicular ascent of Monte Brè, and a guided walk through Brè village. Expect excellent Lake Lugano views, Ticinese houses, art, and several miles of walking, mostly downhill or gently sloping.

Join a local guide such as Cristina or Katerina for a 4.5-hour afternoon from central Lugano. Cruise to Cassarate, ride the steep two-part funicular to Monte Brè, then walk through Brè village, its outdoor art, old stone paths, and Wilhelm Schmid Museum area. Expect fine views, useful local stories, and more steps than the easy label suggests.
